It's been another busy past few weeks with Custom Fittings since my last Custom Fitting News update. Over the past few weeks we've once again seen a wide variety of irons and woods fitted including PING, TaylorMade, Titleist, Mizuno, Cobra and Callaway. 

Last week, we held a PING Fitting Day which was a great success, we saw some great Improvements in consistency and distance with the new G Series irons and woods, next week I will give you a fitting update on who and how these fittings helped members. 

This week, James Wain (11 h'cap) came for a fitting for a new driver. James has had his PING G10 driver for approx 6 years, although the G10 model is nearly 9 years old! James wanted a change of driver so we looked at the new Cobra F6 & F6+ drivers. I got James on the GC2 Launch Monitor and recorded his specs and details from his own driver, we spent an hour going through the fitting process and tested several different shafts and heads until we found the best set-up for James, below are his before and after Launch Monitor numbers.

Old Driver - 10.5* Stiff Driver - Ball Speed: 146mph, Spin Rate: 2698, Carry Distance: 239 yards, Peak Height of Flight 29. 

New Driver - 11.5* Stiff Driver - Ball Speed: 154 mph, Spin Rate: 2160, Carry Distance: 255 yards, Peak Height of Flight 25.

The first thing you will notice is that we actually went up in loft to 11.5*, the new technology and head design allows you to go up in loft whilst reducing spin. 

You can see from the numbers above we have made significant improvements, the Ball Speed has increased on average by 8mph, Spin Rate has decreased to a more ideal 2160 rpm which lowers the ball flight, the Carry Distance has increased by 16 yards on average with the flight of the ball lower so when it lands on the fairway we get extra run, this extra overall distance is up to 40 yards further.

I also had a special guest appearance this week from Derbyshire County Cricket Captain, Wayne Madsen (South African 5 h'cap). Wayne had a full bag fitting for a new driver, fairway, irons and wedges. We specially looked at TaylorMade for this fitting, this was his preferred manufacturer.

The first thing I noticed with Wayne is that his current equipment wasn't suited to his swing, with being a Professional Sportsman, he generated a tremendous amount of power and force through his swing! He had been using lightweight Stiff shafts in all his woods and irons, he thought because he didn't play that often he just needed standard stiff shafts and they would be suitable! On watching his ball flight it was was clear his shafts were too light and far too flexible for his swing, this caused a really inconsistent ball flight and created far too much spin on the ball. 

We tried several different heavier weighted shafts for the woods and irons and found the Aldila Rogue for the woods and Project-X shafts for his irons best suited for his swing, all his shafts are now Extra Stiff and not Regular!! His clubs specs are below: 

TaylorMade M1 10.5* Aldila Rogue 60 X-flex - Ball Speed: 160mph, Spin Rate: 2300, 
Carry Distance: 280 yards 
TaylorMade M2 Fairway 3 wood Aldila Rogue 70 X-flex 
TaylorMade PSi Irons 4-PW, Project X 6.5 shafts, +1/2" longer, Standard Lie, 
TaylorMade EF Wedges 54* & 60* - specs same as irons. 

Wayne's ball flight is now much more consistent and he's in control of it, the extra stiff shaft in his driver has added 30 yards more carry on to his tee shot.

With the new season fast approaching and Spring upon us, I am organising Group Coaching sessions on a Thursday evening through March. We have found winter coaching sessions a huge success and it allows you to work on your swing through the winter ready for the forthcoming season! 

The Coaching Sessions are 4 x 1 Hour sessions at only £30.00 per person, with a max of 6 in a group. 

The March dates and times are as follows: Thursday 3rd, 17th, 24th & 31st 

5.00 - 6.00pm :  3 spaces 
6.00 - 7.00pm :  5 spaces  
7.00 - 8.00pm :  2 spaces  

During the 4 sessions we will cover: Full Swing, Half Swing and Short Game elements. 

March Group Coaching with Lucas 

On a Wednesday evening through March, Assistant Club Professional Lucas, will be running group coaching sessions. 

The Coaching Sessions are 4 x 1 Hour sessions at only £30.00 per person, with a max of 6 in a group. 

The March dates and times are as follows: Wednesday 2nd, 9th, 16th & 23rd.
