Norwegian golfer Kristoffer Reitan came away with the trophy over the weekend at this year’s Truist Championship. The tournament took place at the renowned Quail Hollow venue in North Carolina, the same track that held last year’s PGA Championship.

Come the end of the third round, Alex Fitzpatrick held the lead on 14-under-par with Reitan in second place one stroke behind him. The first half of the final round saw a dramatic late charge from Rickie Fowler. While Reitan had carded a level-par front 9, the fan-favourite American made a flawless 5 birdies to rise from T17 to take the lead.

Fitzpatrick had fallen away with an early disappointing bogey and double bogey on the 2nd and 3rd holes, and Rickie was starting to falter on his back 9 with a bogey on the 13th. Reitan however had gained two shots on the 14th and 15th holes and was in prime position going down the home stretch.

Kristoffer Reitan teed up his ball on the 18th hole with a comfortable 2-shot lead, Rickie Fowler and Dane Nicolai Højgaard were in the clubhouse settled on 13-under. Having found the green on his approach shot, the Norwegian tucked his ball into the cup for a textbook par finish.

It was the Norwegian’s very first PGA Tour victory and he was clearly ecstatic to have beaten such a prestigious field of players “I’m over the moon. It happened way sooner than I would’ve imagined. Absolutely thrilled, awesome experience and very grateful. There are a lot of pieces that have to fall in place. There’s a whole puzzle that needs to shape up and I’ve made some steps in multiple areas of the game.”

Alex Fitzpatrick had very recently won the Zurich Classic with his major-winning brother Matt, and while he fell short at this tournament, the 27-year-old was thrilled to be competing at such a high level “I’m disappointed not to have won, but I’m also really proud of myself for how I battled out there.”

Many of these players will now be looking forward to the year’s second major as the PGA Championship tees off at the Aronimink Golf Club in Philadelphia. Who do you think will be winning it this year? If you have any golfing enquiries, we’re always happy to help you in the pro shop.
